We are looking for sessional Youth Work Holiday Programme Leaders to support our Summer Holiday Programme. You will help deliver play and youth work sessions throughout the programme to ensure attendees experience fun activities, learn new skills and become inspired to make a difference in their communities.
You will lead, direct, encourage and deliver activities as part of a staff team to facilitate young people’s engagement in a summer holiday programme. This will include sessional delivery of daily activities, weekly trips out, and the planning and delivery of an end of summer activity event.
If you are a seasoned Youth Worker, this role will allow you to develop your leadership and planning skills.

Role Main Duties and Accountabilities
- Lead, direct, encourage, and deliver in a staff team to facilitate young people engaging in a summer holiday programme, including sessional delivery of activities, weekly trips out, planning and delivery as well as end of summer activity event.
- Assist the Centre Manager to ensure all necessary and appropriate safeguarding, data handling, health and safety and other legal requirements are in place to protect participants and staff.
- Manage any safeguarding or health and safety incidents in line with Rhys Jones Community Centre CIC procedures.
- Ensure all participant registers and relevant paperwork (including risk assessments, safeguarding reports and incident reports) are completed within agreed timelines and to a high standard.
- Support the sessional staff team to deal with challenging behaviour from young people.
- Engage and build positive relationships with young people and their parent/carers to provide effective support on a one-to-one or group basis.
- Ensure programme content is relevant to the local community and builds on existing relationships with partner individuals and organisations to provide young people with a quality summer holiday programme experience, ensuring they learn community and citizenship values within their local environment.
- Record daily activity across delivery of the local summer programme, including participant contact and outcomes during the programme, and ensure these are fully up to date in time for regular reports to the Rhys Jones Community Centre CIC Centre Manager and Board of Directors.
- Assist in ensuring in-kind funding opportunities are maximised.
- Attend regular supervision sessions with the Centre Manager and compulsory training to enable all duties to be carried out effectively.
- Manage a petty cash float to be used to support the running of the programme.
Other duties
- You will be required to work on a 5-day basis for 3 weeks, 9.30am – 2.30pm.
- To make sure that you read, are familiar with, and follow all policies and procedures.
- To undertake any other duties which can be reasonably expected of you within the level of your job.
Qualifications and Experience
- Some experience of working directly with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Experience of planning, delivery and evaluation of activities for and with young people.
- Experience and understanding of health and safety, safeguarding and data handling practices.
- Professional qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. Youth and Community Work, Social Work, Education, Counselling, Health, or Sports
- Coaching qualifications are desirable but not essential.
- Experience and understanding of the issues affecting young people at risk of social exclusion/offending.
- Experience of youth-led programme development and participative techniques
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, orally and in writing.
- Ability to use IT effectively.
- Ability to work on your own initiative to an agreed action plan.
- Ability to organise your own work routines effectively with a minimum of supervision and support.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy.
