Announcing the 1st Annual Rhys Jones Football Tournament – the Rhys Jones Cup

Elite Sports Coaching in partnership with the Rhys Jones Community Centre CIC are pleased to announce the 1st annual Rhys Jones Football Tournament.

The football tournament will raise funds to maintain the two outdoor 3g sports pitches at The Rhys Jones Community Centre in Croxteth Park, Liverpool.

Rhys Jones, aged just 11 years old, was tragically killed on his way home from football training. The football tournament aims to bring together youth teams to celebrate Rhys Jones by doing what the little 11-year-old boy loved to do – playing football.

Karen Harper, Centre Manager and Director of Rhys Jones Community Centre CIC said, “We know that if he could, Rhys would have loved to be involved in local football tournaments. By now he would probably be one of the coaches supporting other kids playing the game that he adored and just could not get enough of!”

Jack Cain, Lead Coach and Owner of Elite Sports Coaching added, “The Rhys Jones Community Centre is the home of the Rhys Jones Friendly Football League. We want to raise funds for the RJCC to maintain the 2 outdoor pitches at the Centre. That way, we can keep offering more football and sports to more children and young people in the local area.”

The Rhys Jones Cup

The Rhys Jones Football Tournament will bring together grass-roots football teams from all over Liverpool to play for the Rhys Jones Cup at Goals, Park Lane, Netherton.

Matches are arranged over the course of the day with kick-offs throughout the afternoon at 12pm,2pm and 4pm.

“This is just one event across the year that we are involved in to keep Rhys’ name alive. It’s important to leave a positive legacy to his community locally and across Liverpool, to make sure that this little 11-year-old boy did not die in such a callous and cold-blooded way and it mean nothing.” Says Sharon Jardine, Director of Rhys Jones Community Centre CIC.

Event: Rhys Jones Football Tournament at Goals, Park Lane, Netherton, L30 1QQ. Saturday 7th July 2018.

There are a number of trophies per age group. Kick off times are:
12pm Kick-off 5-a-side U6, 7-a-side U9
